Water World -Clouds, streams, rivers, sea and ice
The President’s Prize of $1500 has been awarded to Joe Zhou’s ‘Wellington Harbour’, a representation of the inner harbour in oils that reveals the inspiration of Russian and French impressionists in its approach to its subject by the Wellington-based artist.
The Curator’s Prize of $1500 has been awarded to Eastbourne resident and artist Niki Pennington’s ‘Safe harbour’, a study in acrylic and mixed media.
Five Merit Awards of $200 each have been awarded to Dave Borgioli-Jones for ‘Horizon Event’, Iwen Yong for ‘Breaker Bay Waves’, Yavanna den Harder for ‘A monochrome realm’, Paul Deacon for ‘HMS New Zealand, Lyttelton 1919’ and Wendy Butcher for ‘At First Light (Pauatahanui Wildlife Reserve)’.
We invited artists to submit works in response to this theme of water, whether in clouds or mist, ice or sea, or stream or river, and received well over one hundred entries for this exciting exhibition that explores every aspect of the theme. Our congratulations go to every selected artist and to our award winners.
The exhibition opened to the public on Saturday 13th January and continues to Sunday 11th February. A closing function will be held on Thursday 8th February for artists, members and guests.
