Award-Winning Artist Min Kim Inspires Local Painters in Watercolour Workshop

A dozen artists took the opportunity to spend a couple of exciting days learning how they could take their painting to the next level with award-winning artist Min Kim in the recent workshop exploring the medium of watercolour. The spacious hall behind St Andrew’s on The Terrace proved to be a superb venue and almost every one of the participating artists indicated that they would sign up for another workshop there “in a flash”. Gordon Harris Wellington generously provided the easels for the whole workshop.

During the first day the workshop revisited the main concepts of watercolour, brush strokes and tone before moving to capturing form and understanding the anatomy of the subject. Having grasped the essentials of avian anatomy, on the second day the participating artists each painted four different birds directly from fresh strokes.

Min Kim is an excellent tutor for watercolour artists. She was the winner of the 2025 Supreme Award at Watercolour New Zealand’s 50th Anniversary Exhibition and won the Winsor & Newton & 'Watercolour New Zealand' online competition with the same work.
