Introduction to Marquetry

One Day Workshop with Katy Cottrell

Marquetry is the art of ‘drawing’ with wood veneers, cutting intricate jigsaws of imagery and inlaying into or onto timbers. In this workshop have a go at exploring the different veneers, getting to know the chisels and knives, and create your own take-home work having learnt the fundamentals to take it further.

No experience needed. All tools and materials provided. Age 16 and above. Must be able to use small hand tools safely.  Minimum number will be required to go ahead.

About your tutor

Katy Cottrell specialised in marquetry for her Master of Fine Art degree and is New Zealand’s youngest and only female member of the Marquetry Society.
