Congratulations to Lynn Blann, who has returned from two months in France and Italy, including attending the Venice Biennale as well as the antique fair and Giostra del Saracino in the medieval town of Arezzo, to learn that her painting “I don’t understand” has been selected for the Chianciano Biennale in Tuscany. It is possible it will be selected for the Biennale London exhibition in Chelsea in October.

Taking place from 15–29 August 2026, the Biennale in the town of Chianciano Terme (70km west of Perugia and 70km south of Arezzo) transforms the historic Tuscan spa town (with origins dating back millennia to the Etruscans) into a large-scale international centre for contemporary art, cultural dialogue and creative exchange. The team of the Chianciano Biennale is the same as that of the London Art Biennale held in the historic Chelsea Town Hall in October.

The 9th Chianciano Biennale this year is by far the largest and most ambitious of the exhibitions, bringing together more than 1500 works by over 300 artists from around the world in a multi-site exhibition combining the alluring atmosphere and architectural character of the medieval old town with over 3,000 square metres of exhibition space within the modern Chianciano Art Museum.

Thirteen art galleries are located within the city’s medieval quarter. The medieval streets, galleries and historic spaces of the Centro Storico become an immersive cultural path connecting exhibitions, installations, meetings with artists and special events throughout the town, that creates a unique dialogue between contemporary artistic practice and the cultural heritage of Tuscany.

The Biennale di Chianciano was born in 2009 with the vision to create such a centre of contemporary art outside the established locations.

The vision of the Chianciano Art Museum is to provide a platform to living artists of great talent without constraints or discriminatory factors. Artists selected for the Chianciano Biennale are judged exclusively on their work, their talent and their creativity.
