Well-known Kapiti Coast artist Hamish Macaulay will represent the Academy of Fine Arts at the Wellington Art Show this year. As well as supporting the STUFF Art Aotearoa Gold Award, the Academy is selecting an artist who embodies the Academy’s vision of art excellence to exhibit at the Academy’s stand in each of the four art shows.
Hamish won the Curators' Prize at the Academy Autumn Open Show last year for his work 'Autumn Mist' and the Winsor & Newton Sponsorship Award at the 2024 Wellington Art Show, and was awarded the Premier Award for painting and drawing media at the 2024 Feilding & District Art Society Annual Members' Awards.
Hamish is also the Kāpiti Representative for Print Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (PCANZ), and co-curated the well-received Imprint exhibition at the Academy Galleries in March last year.
Hamish’s work will be familiar to visitors to the Academy Galleries and ORA Gallery in Wellington, Artel Gallery in Waikanae, Kina Gallery in New Plymouth, Tennyson Gallery in Napier and Coolstore Gallery in Mapua. It is also to be seen in Eames Fine Art gallery in London, where he had a sell-out show last year. He is profiled in the latest issue of Academy Art News.
