5 September – 1 October
Exhibition

Pedro Trueba is in the Academy Galleries!

Described by the Ambassador of Mexico to New Zealand as the preeminent Mexican artist working today, Pedro Trueba is a painter and sculptor whose works have been shown in eight successful New York exhibitions as well as in Paris, Geneva, Oviedo, Barcelona, Ottawa, Montreal, New Delhi, Tel Aviv and Amman.

And now in Wellington. He has created in only one week a stunning exhibition of thirty large canvases that mix recollections of his own homeland with vibrant observations of Wellington’s harbour and cityscape.

This is possibly the only chance that most of us will have to see or to buy works by this extraordinary and internationally collected artist.

The exhibition has been brought to Wellington by the Embassy of Mexico to coincide with the 50 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and Mexico. The opening marked the celebration in Wellington of the National Day and 213 th anniversary of the declaration of independence by Mexico.

We thank Gordon Harris Ltd for generous support in providing paints and canvases for the creation of this exhibition, which will continue to 1 October. His career has been formally recognised in the Mexican Chamber of Deputies. He received the International Art Tour Award at the Mad Museum in New York and Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Xalapa, Mexico. He was recognised as “person of the year” in 2019 by international Spanish-language magazine, ‘El Cip’. This exhibition will continue to 30 September and is being brought to Wellington by the Embassy of the Republic of Mexico.
