The new exhibition at Rydge’s Wellington Airport (along the corridor connecting the hotel conference rooms and the terminal) celebrates the themes of flight, movement, the sky, waves and surf. The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts invited artists to respond with works to complement the new sculpture celebrating the journey of bird spirit Te Manu Muramura and the story of taniwha Ngake and Whātaitai of Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington Harbour).
Coming up the escalators from the terminal, the first works seen are stunning images by Judi Lapsley Miller and Juan Miguel Beltran. These Chromaluxe photoartistry prints are a fanfare for the beauty of our local coastline and the precious jewel of Zealandia and its avian residents. Extending along the corridor is a lively selection of enticing works in various media by Irena Stenner, Shelly Shute, Alec MacDonald, Jocelyn Friis, Jane Santos, Helen Casey, Lynn Blann, Roger Hayman, Sue Lund and Raewyn Green, ending with an atmospheric pastel seascape by Dave Borgioli-Jones.
The exhibition is open to view whenever the airport and hotel are open, and entry is free.
