Summer will last a week longer this year! To make space for two concerts being held in the Cathedral during the Festival of the Arts the Summer exhibition will be closed on 1 March and 10 March and will then continue to 14 March.
The Academy originally invited entries for exhibition within the Cathedral from 14 February, just in time for Valentine’s Day, but had to defer opening to 21 February to leave the Cathedral clear for the funeral of Claire Shirtcliffe. Many older members will have fond memories of Claire, whose son Geof was for many years the Academy’s Honorary Solicitor.
The exhibition offers a colourful display of works by artists from across the country who have responded to the warmth and light of the summer season in an enormous variety of styles and media to tempt every taste and pocket.
