Queenstown artist Ben Ho has been selected to represent the Academy of Fine Arts at the Queenstown Art Show 2025 at Te Pūāhuru Queenstown Event Centre, Frankton, over 17-19 October.
Ben Ho was born in Canton, China in 1962, and immigrated to New Zealand in 1988. He graduated from the Canton Fine Art School in 1984. Since 1991 Ben has exhibited widely throughout New Zealand, becoming a working member of the New Zealand Fellowship of Artists Inc in 1992. He has won numerous prestigious art awards and in 1999 was chosen as one of five artists to represent New Zealand in the World-Wide Millennium painting competition in London.
Works by the other members of the Ben Ho Studio will also be on display. Mary Mai immigrated to New Zealand in 1988 with her husband Ben Ho.
Born in Guangzhou in 1964, Mary was encouraged to further her career after she received a scholarship for formal art training. From 1992 she has exhibited her art widely in New Zealand, and alongside Ben, leads art tutorials. She has won several New Zealand art awards including the professional category at Royal Easter Show in 1995 and 1996 After graduating with a Master of Architecture (Professional) degree from the University of Auckland in 2023, as well as being a teacher, Daniel Ho walks in his parents' footsteps as a practicing artist. He has received acclaim in the Architizer One Drawing Challenge and continues to produce and develop pieces that explore and express his place between art and architecture.
